Gustavo A. Mejia, LMHC

Gustavo Mejía was born on March 23rd, 1981 into a Catholic family. He attended high school in El Seminario de Cristo Sacerdote in Palmira, Colombia, of which he was president and a student representative. He was the leader of a Catholic scout group in Palmira for four years.

 

At the age of 18, Gustavo moved to Miami, FL. To pursue an education in theater. Gustavo obtained a diploma in Theater from the Prometheus Conservatory in Miami Dade college with which he founded the evangelization ministry, Hechos de Barro, from 2004 to 2010 taking the gospel through the arts to parishes, groups, and schools. At the early age of 18, he also began his great work with the Miami youth ministry.

 

Gustavo worked as a missionary in Virginia supporting agriculture workers and immigrants. He completed the Youth Theology program with SEPI (South Eastern Pastoral Institute) and contributed to the founding of Pastoral Juvenil Hispana in Miami (Hispanic Youth Ministry of Miami).

 

Gustavo earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy from St. John Vianney College Seminary and his Master's in Psychology from Albizu University.

 

Gustavo has experience working as a mental health counselor in more than 11 schools, helping at-risk youth with behavioral problems, addictions, and different diagnoses through Chrysalis Health in South Florida. He has been a youth minister for seven years at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Miami Beach, Fl, and currently works with the broadcast channel Maria Vision delivering the message of the Theology of the Body in the program En el Principio no era asi. (In the beginning, it was not like this) to various countries in Latin America. He has done programs with EWTN, Radio Paz, and other Catholic stations as well.

 

He has acquired various youth training certifications, psychological therapy methods, and formation in  Theology of the Body. He is in the Theology of the Body certification program with the Theology of the Body Institute in Philadelphia and is part of the Professional development board of Albizu university as part of the Integrated Care for Healthier Communities Project. He is a professor of the Theology of the Body at SEPI (South Eastern Pastoral Institute) and founder of the OneBodySpiritMind project, an evangelization project dedicated to spreading the teachings of Saint John Paul II’s Theology of the Body to Hispanic communities around the world. Through the One Body Spirit Mind Project, he visits different dioceses in the southeast of the country to help train and evangelize in the spreading of the great message of the Theology of the body to Spanish Speakers.

Gustavo's great addition to the team will be mainly focused on training, workshops, formation, and mental health counseling.
